Birthday Boy candles are designed from the ground up for a strong, clean burn—natural soy, phthalate-free fragrance, a cotton wick, recycled glass jar—but if you follow these simple steps you can ensure a perfect glow for as long as possible.
To help you get the most out of your collection, here are some essential rules for candle longevity and safety.
The Golden Rule: Trim Your Wick
Before you reach for the lighter, check your wick. You should always trim the wick to 1/4 inch before every single burn.

Why it matters: A long or mushroomed wick creates a larger flame, which leads to soot, smoking, and an uneven burn. A trimmed wick keeps the flame controlled and the glass (or tin) clean.
Prevent the Dreaded "Memory Ring"
The first time you light your new candle is the most important. Make sure you allow the wax to melt all the way to the edges of the container before blowing it out.

Why it matters: Wax has "memory." If you only melt a small circle in the center, the candle will continue to "tunnel" straight down for the rest of its life, leaving wasted wax stuck to the sides.
Time Your Burn
While it’s tempting to keep your favorite scent wafting all day, you should limit burn time to 3–4 hours.

Special Note for Metal Tins: Our tins get hot! Never attempt to move a metal tin while it is lit. Additionally, avoid placing them directly on delicate surfaces (like unfinished wood) where a ring stain or heat damage could occur. Use a heat-resistant coaster for peace of mind.

When your candle isn't in use, keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
